National Liver Registry Launches New Website to Support Living Liver Donation

The National Liver Registry (NLR) announces the launch of its new website, designed to educate the public about living liver donation, increase awareness about living liver donation as a lifesaving option, and make the process easier and more accessible for both donors and patients.

Living liver donation—where a healthy person donates a portion of their liver to someone in need of a liver transplant—offers an important alternative to deceased donor transplants. Because the liver regenerates, living donation can significantly reduce wait times and improve transplant outcomes. Yet many patients and potential donors are unaware of this option.

The NLR website provides clear, reliable information about living liver donation, including how it works, who qualifies, what the donation process involves, what financial assistance is available to living liver donors, and what recovery is like.

“Living liver donation saves lives, but many people do not realize it is an option,” said McKenzie Winland, Director of the National Liver Registry. “The new NLR website raises awareness by educating potential liver donors and transplant recipients about how safe and effective living liver donation can be.”
